Negative thoughts (or what I call LIES) speak to our deepest insecurities. These lies try to get us to prove our worth. They tell us that we won’t be loved unless we’re successful, beautiful, and powerful. These lies cause us to question our own self-worth and turn to other things to find some momentary sense of fulfillment.
One of the lies I struggle with is “I’m not good enough.” Have you ever felt that way? I’m not a good enough writer, speaker, leader, husband, father, etc. Ugh! I hate hearing that in my head.
If you’re feeling down or just plain funky, you can rest assured that you’re believing a lie about something. Do you know why I call it a lie? Because it’s not the TRUTH!
The truth is that I have been created with a Divine imprint, and I am one of a kind…and so are you!
Side note: I should let you know that I have a strong belief in the inherent value of human beings, because of my own spirituality. I believe that the Divine or God or whatever you want to call the Life Force that’s beyond what we can see with our naked eye has created each one of us with incredible value and purpose out of a deep love for us. You don’t have to believe any of that stuff, but I just want you to know where I’m coming from.
Back to the point…if you allow a negative feeling to remain nebulous and unclear, it will slowly eat you from the inside out. To combat the lie (and ultimately defeat it), you’ll need to get clear on exactly what lie you’re choosing to believe in that moment.
In the midst of feeling down, ask yourself, “What negative thought or lie am I believing about myself, others, or the world in general?”
This is the first step to feeling better. IDENTIFY THE LIE.
Then, you’ll want to replace those lies with a TRUTH.
